Meet the Leaders

OTIS BANWELL
University of Southern California, B.A., Classics, minor in Spanish

While at USC, Otis played on the soccer team, was a member of the ski club, boxed, and worked both at the gym and as a swim instructor. In his sophomore year he spent the fall semester studying abroad in Athens, and spring semester volunteering at orphanages in Cameroon and Ethiopia. After graduation, Otis went to the World Cup in Brazil to cheer on team USA and then moved back to Los Angeles to work with a startup video production company, where he wore many hats, including financials, sales, camera work, and marketing. In 2016, he moved to Barcelona for three years where he taught English in schools, companies, and homes to students of all ages, from toddlers to grandparents. In 2017, Otis started working part-time with a sports startup called CeleBreak, where he organized amateur soccer leagues and tournaments. In 2019, he moved to Los Angeles to open up a new branch of CeleBreak, and after leading in Patagonia this summer he plans on launching another CeleBreak location, this time in South America. Otis is proficient in Spanish and last year led Middle School Costa Rica.

KAITLYN TRUELOVE

While at the University of Colorado, Kaitlyn studied Spanish, Italian, and broadcast journalism. After graduation, she worked for Land Information New Zealand in Wellington, New Zealand, for a year and fell in love with skiing, sailing, and scuba diving in the Southern Hemisphere. Kaitlyn then returned to Colorado for her master’s degree in educational leadership and began leading high school summer trips abroad—exploring the mosques of Istanbul, hiking among ancient ruins in Athens, dancing flamenco in Madrid, trail running in Machu Picchu, paddling the Pacuare river in Costa Rica, and swimming with sea lions in the Galápagos Islands. Kaitlyn teaches middle school Spanish, leads a yearly student trip to Costa Rica, and enjoys weekends full of snowboarding, climbing, and rafting in Colorado.
