Our trip to ¨the end of the world¨ (a.k.a. Ushuaia) was only a 55-minute flight, and the view while landing was incredible. The mountains cascading in the background of the city was breathtaking. We got off the plane and the air was brisk. Finally we were at our final destination and we were excited. Winter in July, now that is amazing. Once we arrived at our hostel we explored the city and saw some landmarks, paintings on wood pieces, and boats. We also had an ongoing snowball fight our entire walk to and from the hostel. It was awesome.
For those who wanted to go ice skating, the group walked back into town to a local ice rink. While ice skating, we had a chance to interact with some local kids and see a local hockey team practice. Dinner was just a hop skip and a jump from the rink. With full bellies of meat and pasta, we finally retired to the hostel for the night to rejuvenate.
Today we went trekking on Martial Glacier wearing crampons. The trek was very hard, and all up a steep hill, but when we got to the top and saw Ushuaia down below the beautiful view made it so worth it. On our way down the mountain we had tea at an old lodge. To wrap up a great day, we went to the Hard Rock Cafe to celebrate Collin’s birthday. We all sang him Happy Birthday at dinner as well as on the mountain and he had a nice ice cream milk shake with a candle to make his 18th birthday wish. We were all exhausted after a long day, headed back to the hostel and prepped for our first day of skiing in the morning!
